Overview

Roger is revolutionizing the dry-bulk shipping industry with digital solutions for deal negotiations, payments, and more. Their core offerings have helped carriers and shippers increase their profit margins, get paid faster, and track their shipments more easily. Roger's platform provides a listing of active loads and available capacity, enabling carriers and shippers to receive multiple bids, accept an offer, and use negotiation tools to make the best decisions for their business.

My Role

I was the lead designer for all three of Roger's platforms: OnRamp, Deals, and Hauls. I collaborated with the project manager, business leadership, and developers to ensure my designs met business objectives. I held three working sessions a week with the business to present designs and make any necessary changes. I also set up meetings with developers to review their work and vice versa.

Discovery

Roger is in its third year of existence. We have gone beyond a basic MVP and are now addressing user issues, adding features, and fulfilling jobs to be done. The problems have changed, but the design thinking framework we use to solve them has remained consistent.

Over the past year, much work has been done on this project. I have chosen a few features that best demonstrate my work for Roger.

Book Deals Dashboard

This was one of the largest features I worked on for Roger. Below is the main dashboard for booking an opportunity. Users can view all open deals and deals they have created in both list and map view. Additionally, users can filter their search, reset the map position when moved, or search new areas of the map for deals outside of the current area.

Booking Deals

When a user wants to view a single opportunity, they will be brought to the screens below. Here, they can chat with the shipper, make an offer, send a counter offer, and view additional notes left by the carrier.

Managing Users

For the screens below, Roger admins are given the ability to add a user to their organization, search users, view active and pending users, and edit and delete users out of their organization.

The Results

Roger has been a huge success. In the past 6 months, engagement in new loads created increased by 77% (419,594 total), adoption of new carriers and shippers increased by 40% (1,114 carriers and 2,148 drivers), and freight paid through Roger increased by 80% ($129,000,00 total) after the new booking opportunity dashboard was created.

What I Learned

This platform would not be successful without the team actively working on it. It has been a pleasure to own the design process. Over the past year, I have learned the importance of communication between project managers, developers, and business leadership. Additionally, creating and maintaining a design system is essential when working with many developers.
